Solid Second For Steele at New
Smyrna |
TBARA News Release
(February 10) - Twenty one of
the TBARA Pavement Pounders made
the trip to the fast ½ mile in
Samsula Florida with defending
2007 champion Troy DeCaire
besting the field in the 30 lap
feature. DeCaire, driving the
familiar George Rudolph 68, took
the early lead and was never
headed. In victory circle Troy
said,” George had the car
handling better than ever and it
was showing 800 RPM higher
through the corners than we
normally see!” Dave Steele
placed second with Teate,
Hartley, and rookie Blaze Martin
rounding out the top five
In heat race action, Steele,
looking for a repeat of
Saturday’s win, was turning laps
in the mid 15 second range for
an average speed of 116 MPH and
a top speed of 140+ down the
long New Smyrna straightaways as
he won the first heat. Dude
Teate and Bo Hartley also had
their cars up to the task as
they took the 2nd and 3rd heats,
respectively.
The 3rd heat was marred by a
savage crash involving a stuck
throttle on the Rod Anderson 35.
Anderson was unconscious for
several minutes as rescue
personnel removed him from his
destroyed racer. Thankfully, he
regained consciousness on the
trip to the hospital and was
released 2 days later with a
concussion and a fracture of the
#4 vertebra.
