Dave began racing at the age of seven, competing in go-karts.  He moved to TQ midgets in 1990 at the age of 16, winning 24 of 28 feature events in his first two seasons.  During this time, he began driving a sprint for his dad, winning Rookie of the Year in the local car club, PRO Sprints.  He entered his first Little 500 in Anderson, IN in his dad's #0 in 1992, finishing 5th and taking Rookie of the Race honors at that event.  He also finished 5th in 1993, and began driving for Jack Nowling in the #66 Quickload Aluminum Boat Trailers sprint.  He drove the Quickload car in the 1994 Little 500, finishing 4th and had a DNF in 1995 (motor problems).  He went on to win the Little 500 in the #66 in 1996, and finished 3rd in 1997 after leading the most laps and running out of fuel.  Dave also finished 3rd in the 1993 Florida 500 at Charlotte County Speedway and won this event in 1994.

Dave was very competitive in the Tampa Bay Area Racing Association and in the southeast with the American Winged Outlaw Series, winning more than 20 features with both organizations, as well as one ASCS feature at Eastbay Raceway in Gibsonton, FL in 1996.  He was the 1995 TBARA Pavement Champion.

Dave began competing in several USAC sprint and Silver Crown events in 1994 driving the Jack Nowling cars, with a 2nd place sprint finish at Louisville that year, and a 5th place finish in the Copper Classic Silver Crown Series in February, 1996.  He went on to set a new world record for a non-wing 410 sprint at Phoenix International Raceway in 1996 in the Jack Nowling sprinter.  He also took some time between racing seasons to complete the required course work to receive his Associates of Arts Degree at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa in 1995.

Dave began driving for Johnny Vance in the Aristocrat Products sprint and Silver Crown series in 1997.  He won six USAC sprint features that year, set another sprint record at PIR in April, 1997, and broke that record and sat on the pole in the 1998 Desert Star Classic at PIR.   Dave also set a new record and was the pole sitter at the 1998 Copper Classic Silver Crown event at PIR.

Dave began competing in a limited number of midgets events in 1997 in one of the Steve Lewis #9 midgets.  He won his first midget feature in the Night Before the 500 race at Indianapolis Raceway Park in May, 1998.  He also won his first Silver Crown feature at Memphis Motorsports Park in May, 1998, in the Aristocrat Products #2.

Dave had the following wins in 1999: USAC Western Midget at Irwindale, CA;  TBARA winged sprint at Volusia Co. Speedway, FL;  two USAC sprint wins at Winchester, IN;  TBARA winged sprint at Columbia Motorsports Park, Lake City, FL;  USAC sprint win at Salem, IN;  USAC Silver Bullet win at IRP; and USAC sprint win at IRP.  He also sat on the pole at the 1999 USAC Silver Bullet Copper Classic.

In 2001, Dave was back full time with USAC and had several feature wins in both the Silver Bullet and Sprint Series, driving for Bob Gratton of GMS Motorsports.  He also competed on dirt in the Silver Bullet and ended the season third in points.  He began driving a Mopar Midget owned by Dino Tomassi and won the Turkey Night Midget race in Irwindale, CA at the end of the season.

The 2002 season has started very well for Dave.  He continues to drive the sprint and Silver Crown series for Bob Gratton, and the Midget series for Dino Tomassi.  He set new track records in both the Silver Crown and Midget at the Copper Classic and won both features.  He won the midget feature at Anderson Speedway, and competed in all three classes at Nazareth, PA where he finished 3rd in the midget, had motor problems in the sprint resulting in a DNF, and the Silver Crown race was rained out.  Dave has also recorded wins in his sprint at both Winchester and Anderson in May.
